DiNardo concerned about gameplan leaks

BATON ROUGE, La. -- LSU closed its football practices to the media Monday because people apparently have been taking notes about practices and sending the information into cyberspace, said Herb Vincent, associate athletic director.

An earlier release implied that spies may have been watching practice: "It has become evident over the course of the last two weeks that detailed information about LSU practices is being gathered and utilized by our opponents," that news release from Vincent said.

But Vincent said later that was not the impression his office wanted to give the media.

"We'd didn't want to imply that anyone is spying on our practice," Vincent said in a phone interview late Monday. "People are just going, watching practice and reporting it."

It is not necessarily opponents who are doing the reporting, said Vincent. The information is appearing on fan websites.

The school does its own website scouting of opponents, Vincent said. But too much information was getting out about LSU, he said.

"We're closing practice until we can find a better way to do it," he said.

LSU (2-2, 0-2 in the Southeastern Conference) lost to Georgia on Saturday after being off the previous week and losing to Auburn the week before that.

"I've been told some concrete things that have happened and we'll try to work things out," coach Gerry DiNardo said after Monday's practice.

Vincent said LSU will re-evaluate the practice policy this week, researching the policies of other universities.

"We will develop a policy which will best satisfy the confidentiality needs of our practices as well as the interest of our fans in the day-to-day operation of our football team," Vincent said.
