Surgery ends Miami LB Smith's season

Associated Press

MIAMI -- Miami starting linebacker Michael Smith, injured in the first half of the Hurricanes' 27-23 loss to No. 2 Penn State, had surgery on his right knee Sunday, ending his college career.

Smith, a fifth-year senior for the ninth-ranked Hurricanes, tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee.

Linebacker Dan Morgan played the entire second half on a strained hamstring, but is expected to play next week at East Carolina.
