ATLANTA -- Georgia Tech lost running back Joe Burns for the
season when he broke his right ankle Saturday night in the Yellow
Jackets' 41-35 loss at top-ranked Florida State.
Burns, a sophomore, sustained the injury after making a 14-yard
run in the fourth quarter.
"It was a heartbreaker," said coach George O'Leary, whose Yellow Jackets fell to No. 11 in the ESPN/USA Today poll and No. 12 in the Associated Press poll. "He took the pitch on the option and turned the corner, but he got caught from behind and his leg buckled as the guy came over the top. "He'll be out for the year. Hopefully we can put in for a medical redshirt year because it occurred before the third game." Listed as a co-starter with senior Phillip Rogers, Burns is Tech's third-leading rusher with 87 yards on 14 carries (6.2 yard average) and second-leading receiver with seven catches for 96 yards a touchdown. He led Georgia Tech (1-1) with 474 yards rushing and five touchdowns last season. | ALSO SEE Florida State still rules ACC, clips Yellow Jackets
