| Wednesday, November 8 Miami learning BCS, life isn't fair By Lee Corso Special to ESPN.com | |||||||||
| What bowl do you think UCLA will qualify for this year? Phil, Tampa, Fla. Who knows? They're going to have to win a couple more games. I'm not so sure they can do that; I don't know if they can beat USC. The Bruins have a long way to go yet. They still have Washington and Southern California. They could go to a lower ranked bowl if they finish 6-5.
Rocco, Rutherford, N.J. First of all, life is not fair. The BCS was designed to pick the top two teams at the end of the college football season; not the middle of it. There's a lot more football to be played before it can be determined which two teams will remain standing at the end of the year. Two Questions for the Man: (1) Who do you think will emerge as the winner of the SEC West? (2) If Georgia wins out, do you see them playing in a bowl game? Paul McGruder, Atlanta, Ga. The answer to question No. 1 is Mississippi State, because they have the best defense in the clutch, they have experience and everything else it takes to win. To answer No. 2, if Georgia wins out, they've got a good chance to go to the Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl.
Shea, Auburn, Ala. He could be. He'll have to beat the quarterbacks who say they are returning; Eric Crouch, Michael Vick....YO! But it could happen. Johnson is a good runner. How badly will Auburn beat Alabama in their own house on Nov. 18? Shea, Auburn, Ala. I doubt if they'll beat them bad, but I do think the Tigers can beat Bama. But I wouldn't be surprised if the Tide didn't rise up and beat Auburn. They've got a lot of pride riding on that game, the team may rally together to win the last one for Mike DuBose. Hey Lee, My question to you is: do you think Florida State will come out victorious against Florida? Steve Daft, Titusville, Fla. Yes, because they play in Tallahassee. If Oklahoma and Nebraska meet in the Big 12 Championship and NU wins, do both teams miss the Orange Bowl? Nate Krcilek, Camp Eagle, Bosnia It's possible. It depends on what Miami does. If Miami and FSU run the table (and Nebraska beats OU in the rematch), those two will probably play in the Orange Bowl. Now that VT lost their chance in the title hunt, how likely do you think it is that they will get an at-large bid in another BCS bowl? Will they end up in the top six? Brian S., Blacksburg, Va. Forget about it. They won't get an at-large bid because they lost too late. I don't think they'll be in the top six, but they should be in the top eight. The Hokies could get beat again; Virginia could beat them. Who do you think will win the "Civil War" this year? Bruce Bacon, Seattle, Wash. Wow! Oregon State-Oregon could be the best game of the year. It's too early to predict a winner without knowing the injury update, but the Nov. 18 "Civil War" will be a tremendous game this year. Who do you think has the best shot at the national title next season? Who do you think has the best shot at the SEC title next season? Eric Hembree, Knoxville, Tenn. Hello! You're asking for next year already??? I'm assuming you are a Volunteer fan, so I'll say Tennessee. Mr. Corso, I hate the current college overtime system because it isn't like the real game. It's more like a cheesy little game. I don't really like the NFL's sudden-death format either, but I like it a lot more than the NCAA's. Do think the NCAA will consider changing the overtime format in the near future? Do you like the current format, or would you like to see a new one? Personally, I see nothing wrong with just awarding both teams with a tie like they used to. Tom H., Grand Island, N.Y. No, I don't think they'll change the current format anytime soon. My personal opinion is that while it's not ideal, the current format is the best you can do. I like it compared to the NFL's system. College football will never be like the NFL -- you can forget about it. They want to stay unique. How well do you think Colorado State would do if they were a member of the Pac-10? Dave Wood, Stone Mountain, Ga. They'd probably win half their games. I've seen Colorado State in person and I think they are a very good football team. The Pac-10 is a solid conference once again, with lots of good teams, but I think Colorado State could beat half of the teams in the Pac-10. How important will the loss of Robert Ferguson be if he cannot play against Oklahoma? Can A&M afford that type of this loss in the passing game this weekend? George Temple Jr., College Station, Texas You've got to remember one thing about A&M: they are going to have to win this game on emotion, because OU is simply a better football team. It doesn't matter who's hurt, it all depends on how the Aggies emotionally attack this football game. What are USC's chances of beating Florida this week and if they do what are their chances of winning the SEC championship game? Gene Campbell, Florence, S.C. I don't think they can beat Florida in the Swamp. The Gamecocks could win this one if it were in Columbia, but the Swamp is just too tough of a place to play. The Gators have too many things going for them at home. How can you condemn Colorado State for running up the score against BYU, and then excitedly look forward to FSU doing the same thing week in and week out? Lenny Kendall, Port St. Lucie, Fla. I didn't condemn Colorado State. The score was 38-0, they had LaVell Edwards beat, and I said enough was enough. Colorado State, unlike FSU, is not playing for the national championship, where total points matter in the BCS rankings. All they did was embarrass Edwards more than they should have. I don't think it's right for Florida State to run up the score either, but I understand they have to do it to win the national title. Please settle two arguments my friends have: My friends say that the number one college football team couldn't beat the worst NFL team's third string. What do you think? Sami Kedem, Miami, Fla. I think your friends are wrong. The best college team could beat the worst NFL team's third string. But they couldn't beat the first or second string. If Texas wins out and has a record of 9-2, what bowl will they go to? Jeremy Hughes Kilgore, Texas They've got a chance to go to the Alamo bowl, which is a good bowl. What are the chances of you putting on the Albert mask at Doak Stadium? Adam Veale, Jacksonville, Fla. I'm guessing you're talking about Albert the Alligator and not Albert Gore. You'll have to tune in to College Gameday to see. | ALSO SEE Not so fast: Questions for Corso | ||||||||
