Coach, do you think the Notre Dame defense can hold off Air Force's offense or will the Irish offense have to step up?
First of all, it is going to be tough to stop the Air Force offense because they have so many different things they can do and so many well-rounded concepts. I think Notre Dame is finally going to give up some points. The Irish are going to need a big game from Carlyle Holiday and Arnaz Battle, and I expect them to play well. I just can't wait to get to Colorado Springs for College GameDay because this is going to be an exciting game.
What are the keys to an Iowa State victory Saturday in Norman?
And...
Do you think Oklahoma will be better prepared for Seneca Wallace after facing Missouri's Brad Smith?
The improved Cyclones defense has to continue to play well and Seneca Wallace has to find a way to make a couple of big plays with his feet like Smith did. The OU defense is tough to score against, so ISU needs the quarterback to create some breakdowns. He has to make some big plays, but the defense has to continue to improve as well. The Oklahoma defense should be better prepared because Smith is a good player, but Wallace is a better passer and I think people underestimate his ability to throw the ball. He is just a terrific player and I don't think any team is ever truly prepared for everything Seneca Wallace can do.
Onterrio Smith is having a great season, yet seems to be on nobody's radar screen. Why is that, considering he has topped the century mark in every game?
Onterrio is on the radar of people who know college football, and they think he is a tremendous player. The thing that hurts him is that Oregon plays on the west coast and not a lot of people get a chance to see him on regular basis. Once the Ducks play some games on national TV and he gets some exposure, everyone will know what he can do.
Will Oklahoma State be able to pull out an upset win against Nebraska this weekend in Stillwater?
I don't think so. Oklahoma State really had a letdown last week against Kansas State after the near-upset of Texas. The Wildcats destroyed OSU and I think that will destroy some of the Cowboys' confidence. I wouldn't be surprised if they went in the tank until they face Oklahoma in the last game of the season.
Sean Miller, Simpsonville, S.C. Matt Mauck being out of the game would give South Carolina a better chance, but his loss wouldn't be devastating for the Tigers because they lead the nation in total defense (207.8 ypg) and are second in scoring defense (10.5 ppg). I think the defense will be the difference and this will be a low-scoring game, and I give LSU the edge because of the home field advantage
Coach, do you think Georgia is for real after back-to-back wins against Alabama and Tennessee, or is the SEC down this year?
Georgia is for real in my mind. The Bulldogs are one of the best teams I have seen, and what impressed me about them was the way they won at Alabama in the final few minutes in all phases of the game. The UGA defense stuffed the Alabama run and got a big sack of Brodie Croyle, Musa Smith and the offense drove down the field into field goal range, and Billy Bennett's kick provided the winning margin. That's a good football team. Well-coached, well-conditioned, and they are for real.
Coach, simple question: What does Kansas State need to do in order to pull off the upset this weekend against Texas?
The Wildcats have to come to play and remember they are in Manhattan. I wouldn't be surprised if Texas is a little demoralized by the way it lost the Oklahoma game, and I would not be surprised at all if Kansas State beat the Longhorns at home this weekend.
Lee, what do you think of Colorado's Chris Brown as a Heisman Trophy candidate? He is carrying the Buffaloes' offense on his shoulders, especially after his 309 yards against Kansas.
Brown had a little bit of a slow start and got less attention than guys like Willis McGahee and Maurice Clarett. But I think he is a terrific player, and his performance against Kansas last week has helped him become the leading rusher in the nation at 164.5 yards per game.
Coach Corso, do you think Ole Miss can pull another upset, this time against Alabama?
A lot depends on how well Mississippi plays on defense. This has been the Rebels' downfall in the past, but they got a great effort earlier this year against Florida. Another key is going to be how well the Crimson Tide play on pass defense because Eli Manning can really light it up. I think this will be a very close game, but if I had to pick a winner I would go with Alabama because the game is being played in Tuscaloosa. Lee Corso is an analyst for ESPN College GameDay.
