Colorado State players accosted but unhurt Associated Press
MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Four Colorado State players in town for
the Liberty Bowl got a fright but were unhurt when they were
accosted by would-be armed robbers.
A man and a woman, armed with what appeared to be a pistol,
demanded money from the players Monday night on a sidewalk near The
Peabody Hotel, where the Colorado team is staying, said Gary
Ozzello, a university spokesman.
When the players said they didn't have any money, the two
strangers ran off. The players called police and two suspects were
arrested a short time later.
Ozzello said the would-be robbers apparently were armed with a
pellet gun, not a firearm.
Police said two suspects were in custody but declined to
identify them pending filing of charges. The university declined to
name the players involved.
Colorado State plays Louisville in the Liberty Bowl on Friday.
