MORAGA, Calif. (AP) _ Matt Cannon rushed for 147 yards and passed for 194 to lead Southern Utah to a 57-22 win over St. Mary's on Saturday.

Cannon also rushed for two touchdowns and threw for another, totaling 1,000 yards rushing in three seasons for Southern Utah (6-3).

The Thunderbirds scored on their first four possessions in the first quarter for a total of 28 points, completing drives of 40, 80, 41 and 89 yards.

St. Mary's (2-8) got on the scoreboard early in the second quarter on a 6-yard rush by Jeff Brown.

But Southern Utah roared ahead to reach halftime with a 42-7 lead.

St. Mary's scored just twice more, in the third quarter on a 6-yard Gus Papanikolas pass to Eric Billeci, and with 10 seconds left in the game when Ashley Dunlap connected with Kawika Watts on a 44-yard TD pass.

Southern Utah had 734 yards on the day, compared to 383 by St. Mary's.
