TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (AP) _ Indiana St. and Southern Illinois combined for 1,192 offensive yards as the Sycamores won the Gateway Conference battle 66-45

Indiana St. (3-6, 2-3) had 453 rushing yards and the Salukis (4-6, 1-5) recorded 444 passing yards as twelve different players scored touchdowns in the game.

Southern Illinois started the scoring with a 43-yard pass from Sherard Poteete to Nick Walford 1:12 into the game. Indiana State answered with touchdowns by Nick Nelson and Tony Albrinck. Nelson scored on a 12-yard pass from Sheraton Fox and Albrinck returned a fumble for 79 yards.

The game was determined in the first half _ as each team scored 35 points in the second. The Sycamores scored 21 in the third while the Salukis put 21 on the board in the fourth.

Southern Illinois was held to a field goal in the second quarter. Indiana State scored on a 32-yard run by Nelson, a 37-yard reception by Keith Herron and a 32-yard field goal by Mike Megyesi as time ran out in the first half.

Nelson led the Sycamore ground attack with 156 yards on seven carries. Jared Sessum added 81 yards on 11 carries and Fox had 70 yards on 18 rushes. Fox also completed 13-of-17 passes for 179 yards and three touchdowns.

Poteete completed 38-of-59 passes for 379 yards. Craig caught 12 passes for 130 yards with two touchdowns for the Salukis and Mark Shasteen added 93 yards on 10 catches. Poteete led Southern Illinois with 38 yards on 10 carries with two touchdowns.

Megyesi converted all nine extra-point attempts for the Sycamores.
