THIBODAUX, La. (AP) _ Brock Nutter ran for one touchdown and passed for another as Troy State shut out Nicholls State, 20-0, in a Southland Football League game Saturday night.

LeBarron Black also gained 115 yards on 10 carries as Troy (8-0 overall, 4-0 atop the SFL) dealt Nicholls (1-7, 1-4) its fifth straight loss.

After a scoreless first period, Troy _ the top-ranked team in Division I-AA _ scored on sustained drives in each of the final three quarters while holding Nicholls to just 205 total yards.

Troy drove 77 yards in just four plays for Phillip Jones' 16-yard touchdown with 2:51 left in the second quarter.

Nutter's 10-yard touchdown with 43 seconds left in the third period capped a 47-yard drive and his 28-yard touchdown pass to Mareno Philyaw concluded a 58-yard drive with 2:10 left in the game.

Neither team could mount any sort of passing attack. Troy had 249 yards rushing, but got 52 passing yards; Nicholls ran for 147 yards, but got just 58 passing.
