NEW YORK (AP) _ Quarterback Gavin Hoffman passed for a school-record 399 yards Saturday to lead Penn to a 41-17 Ivy League victory over Columbia.

Columbia (2-3, 0-2 Ivy) took a 7-0 lead on Mike Glynn's 72-yard scoring pass to Johnathan Reese, but Hoffman then threw the first of four touchdown passes, hitting wide receiver Brandon Carson with a 35-yard toss to tie it.

Penn (3-2, 2-0) went ahead on Hoffman's 3-yard pass to tight end Benjamin Zagorski early in the second quarter. Columbia converted a fumble recovery by Matt Porter into Glynn's 5-yard TD pass to Armand Dawkins.

Hoffman's third touchdown pass, a 77-yarder to flanker Rob Milanese with 5:54 left in the second quarter, put the Quakers ahead to stay 21-14.

Hoffman also threw a 63-yard scoring pass to Brandon Clay one minute into the second half and Chris Ryan ran 35 yards for a fourth-quarter touchdown.

Ryan gained 172 yards in 30 rushes as the Quakers piled up 627 yards to the Lions' 241.

Hoffman broke the Penn record of 360 by Mark DeRosa at Cornell in 1994.

Neal Kravitz kicked a 27-yard field goal for Columbia to narrow the halftime lead to 21-17. Penn's Jason Feinberg had a 23-yard field goal in the third quarter and a 28-yarder in the fourth.
