THIBODAUX, La. (AP) _ Travis Bush passed for one touchdown on a fake field goal, Bronson Sanders ran for another score and Southwest Texas forced five turnovers Saturday in a 16-0 Southland Football League victory over Nicholls State.

The defense for Southwest Texas (2-3 overall, 1-1 SFL) punished Nicholls (1-4, 1-2) for the second week in a row. The Colonels, who threw four interceptions and lost one fumble this time, committed six turnovers a week earlier in a 42-7 loss to Northwestern State.

The loss, in Nicholls' home opener, was the first time the Colonels were shut out since a 19-0 loss to Northwestern State in September 1997.

Bush's 7-yard touchdown pass to Eric Diogu with 20 seconds left in the first half staked Southwest Texas to a 7-0 Southwest Texas lead that held up until the fourth period. It was the only pass attempted by Bush, a wide receiver who was the holder on a fake field goal.

In the fourth quarter, following a Nicholls fumble, the Bobcats marched 36 yards in three plays with Sanders scoring from 4 yards with 13:21 remaining.

A 39-yard field goal by Ross Doctoroff with 3:04 left in the game closed out the scoring.

Sanders finished with 73 yards on 18 carries and Lee Davis carried 16 times for 71 yards to anchor a Southwest Texas offense that produced 182 yards rushing versus just 78 for Nicholls.
