NEWBERRY, S.C. (AP) _ Dustin Coats' 56-yard touchdown pass to Josh Pierce lifted Newberry to a 27-26 victory against Charleston Southern on Saturday. Coats completed 10-of-23 passes for 177 yards and scored on a 1-yard run in the third quarter. Pierce was the leading rusher with 72 yards for the Indians (3-3). Newberry was up 14-6 at the half, but Charleston Southern grabbed a 19-14 lead in the third quarter on Booker Peake's 15-yard run for the Buccaneers (1-5). The Indians' Vic Gilmore answered with a 3-yard run to put his team on top in the fourth quarter. Charleston Southern scored on a 10-play, 56-yard drive and took the lead when Larry Stroud scored his second touchdown with a 4-yard run. The Indians led 26-20 after Jason Trussell's extra point. The Indians got the ball back on their own 40 after Pierce's 35-yard return. After a short run by Gilmore, Coats hit Pierce in stride for the winning score.
