AMHERST, N.Y. (AP) _ Northern Illinois got its first win and kept Buffalo winless with a 45-21 victory Saturday night.

William Andrews rushed for 113 yards and scored two touchdowns and Chris Finlen passed for 168 yards and two scores as the Huskies amassed 453 yards to Buffalo's 312.

Northern Illinois (1-4 overall, 1-1 Mid-American Conference) took a 24-0 lead in the first half with a balanced attack that produced 319 yards and a defense that limited Buffalo to 72 yards.

Finlen threw for 162 yards and two touchdowns in the first half, and Andrews and Ivory Bryant combined for 178 yards rushing in the half.

Buffalo (0-4, 0-3), which joined the MAC and moved up a notch to Division I-A this season, didn't start scoring until the game was out of reach.

Buffalo scored its first touchdown with 1:26 left in the third quarter when Joe Freedy lofted a pass from the Huskies' 2 to flanker Drew Haddad in the corner of the end zone to trail 38-7.

Josh Roth added a touchdown for Buffalo on a 1-yard run with 7:57 to play, and Theron Walker scored on a 1-yarder with 2:57 remaining.

Andrews burst through the middle for 17 yards and the first touchdown of the game with 5:11 left in the first quarter, capping an 80-yard drive of 14 plays.

Benji Peacock's interception set up Kent Baker's 25-yard field goal to give the Huskies a 10-0 lead early in the second quarter.

Northern Illinois mixed the pass and run in putting together another 80-yard touchdown drive for a 17-0 lead. Finlen threw 19 yards to flanker Justin McCareins for the score with 6:29 left in the half.

The Huskies made it 24-0 on Finlen's 21-yard pass to Darrell Hill with 2:04 in the half. Bryant rushed three times for 43 yards on the six-play, 69-yard drive.

Andrews returned the second-half kickoff 95 yards for a 31-0 lead, scooping up his own fumble and racing down the sideline.

Bryant scored on a 1-yard run with 8:12 in the third quarter, and added another 1-yard TD run early in the fourth.
