LEXINGTON, Va. (AP) _ Adrian Peterson rushed for 211 yards and three touchdowns Saturday as Georgia Southern, the top-rated team in Division I-AA, routed VMI 62-0.

It was the 20th game in a row that Peterson, a sophomore, has rushed for 100 yards or more, one shy of the NCAA Division I-AA record set by Frank Hawkins of Nevada-Reno in 1979-80. It also was Peterson's eighth career 200-yard effort.

The Eagles (4-1, 3-0 Southern Conference) scored touchdowns on their first four possessions. By half-time Georgia Southern had outgained the Keydets 437 to 9 and built a 42-0 lead.

VMI (1-4, 0-2) was coming off a 58-0 loss to Furman last week.

Quarterback Greg Hill added 121 rushing yards and two touchdowns for the Eagles, who outgained VMI 649 yards to 90. Hill also passed for 63 yards and a touchdown.

Georgia Southern's rushers averaged 7.6 yards per carry.

Terry Frost led VMI's rushers with 35 yards. Quarterbacks Joey Gibson and Robbie Chenault were a combined 6-of-16 for 52 yards and were sacked four times.
