VALPARAISO, Ind. (AP) _Valparaiso used balanced aerial and ground attacks to send Drake home in defeat 27-17 Saturday.

The Crusaders ran the ball 48 times for 213 yards and completed 13-of-29 passes for 152 yards.

Marrial Shields led the rushing attack with 112 yards on 15 carries. He also completed 7-of-14 passes for 70 yards. Brett Durham added 56 yards on nine carries.

Andy Huegli completed 6-of-15 passes for 82 yards and one touchdown for the Crusaders.

Matt Steinfeldt caught five passes for 61 yards and Matt Junia had four receptions for 65 yards.

Drake finished the game with 148 receiving yards. Aaron Overton caught four balls for 75 yards and a touchdown.

With the score tied at 10 at half-time, Valparaiso scored the first two touchdowns of the second half before Drake was able to score with two seconds left in the third quarter.

The Crusaders put the game away for good on an Eric Strasser field goal with 34 seconds left.
