BURLINGTON, N.C. (AP) _ Steven Ferguson and Daren Bethea combined for 202 yards rushing and Elon scored touchdowns on its first four possession on the way to a 40-7 win over North Carolina A&T on Saturday.

Ferguson, who finished with 110 yards on 22 carries, capped off an 80-yard drive with a four-yard TD burst on the Fighting Christians first possession.

Elon (4-0) added touchdowns on drives of 44, 51 and 74 yards before Shanard Smith returned an interception 38 yards for a score to push the lead 34-0 late in second quarter.

North Carolina A&T (2-1) avoided a shutout when Maurice Smith scored on an 80-yard run with 2:00 left in the game.

Elon quarterback Derrick Moore added to the Fighting Christians 351 yard rushing total, gaining 62 yards in 12 carries and scoring two first half touchdowns. He also completed 2 of 3 passes for 24 yards.
