NACOGDOCHES, Texas (AP) _ Wes Pate accounted for all four Stephen F. Austin touchdowns as the Lumberjacks beat Southwest Texas 28-17 on Saturday.

Pate, who passed for 124 yards and rushed for 93 more, scored two rushing touchdowns and threw a pair of scoring passes as Stephen F. Austin (2-1) pulled away after an early 14-14 tie. Pate made the biggest play of the game on the first play of the third quarter, keeping the ball on an option and sprinting 47 yards for a score that gave the Lumberjacks a 28-14 lead.

The Bobcats (1-2) were led by Bronson Sanders, who rushed for 169 yards on 29 carries. Spergon Wynn scored both Southwest Texas touchdowns on runs of one and four yards.

Pate began his assault on the endzone early, scoring the first touchdown of the game on a 30-yard run midway through the first quarter. Pate, who completed seven of 18 passes without an interception, later added a 27-yard touchdown pass to Freddy Lyons and a 40-yard scoring pass to Zach Woods, both in the second quarter.

Southwest Texas cut the lead to 11 points with 9:00 remaining in the third quarter, but neither team scored after that. The Bobcats couldn't take advantage of the fact that they beat the Lumberjacks in total yardage (350-279) and time of possession (36:12-23:48).
