VILLANOVA, Pa. (AP) _ Ducarmel Augustin ran for a career-high 122 yards, including a 44-yard touchdown, and Villanova's defense foiled a late Massachusetts drive deep in their own territory to preserve a 26-21 win Saturday over the defending Division I-AA national champions. Wildcats linebacker Aaron Weems knocked down a desperation pass at the Villanova 10-yard line by UMass quarterback Todd Bankhead to preserve their second straight win over a top Atlantic 10 opponent. Villanova (2-1, 2-0) beat defending conference champion Richmond 35-30 last week. UMass (1-1, 1-1) committed three turnovers in the first half, and could not overcome an early 21-0 lead by the Wildcats, capped by a 4-yard touchdown catch by Cameron Cross, and Augustin's scoring run. The Minutemen closed the deficit to five points after Marcel Shipp caught a 39-yard TD pass from Bankhead with 2:03 left in the game. Shipp, who also ran for 102 yards, had a 7-yard TD run in the third quarter. Villanova's Chris Boden was 18-of-40 for 168 yards and two interceptions, but threw a touchdown pass in his 27th consecutive game.
