PHILADELPHIA (AP) _ Ralph Saldiveri ran for scores of 82 and 46 yards, and Matt D'Occhio added a 34-yard interception return as Iona defeated La Salle 31-23 on Saturday.

Saldiveri, who last year ran for 264 yards on 41 carries against the Explorers, totaled 180 yards Saturday, including the 46-yard dash to the end zone on the game's opening drive.

Rob Terry added a 22-yard TD run for Iona (1-1, 1-1 Metro Atlantic Athletic).

La Salle (1-2, 0-2) took their only lead of the game with 10:39 left in the second quarter, when quarterback Mike Bamowski ran in from a yard out for a 10-7 lead. Iona went on to score 14 straight points and never trailed again.

Brian Small led the Explorers with 142 rushing yards, 15 days after having arthroscopic surgery on his right knee. But La Salle could only muster 90 passing yards, 60 of which came on the game's final drive.
