HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (AP) -- Chad Pennington threw four touchdowns passes for the second straight week as Marshall (No. 25 ESPN/USA Today, unranked AP) beat Bowling Green 35-16 Saturday.

Marshall (3-0, 1-0 Mid-American Conference) set an all-divisions record with its 104th victory this decade, surpassing the mark of 103 shared by Alabama during the 1970s and Nebraska in the 1980s. Marshall moved from Division I-AA to I-A in 1997.

Marshall won for the 26th straight time at home, second only to Florida's 29 straight entering Saturday night's home game against Tennessee.

The victory avenged last year's 34-13 loss at Bowling Green, Marshall's only defeat in a 12-1 season.

Pennington, the Mid-American Conference's career passing leader, completed 15-of-31 for 257 yards with one interception.

Most of the scoring was done before halftime. The teams combined for just 10 points in the second half.

Like last year, Bowling Green (1-2, 0-1) used ball control to keep Marshall's offense off the field, but the Falcons found it tough getting into the end zone. They were held to field goals on three of four trips inside the 20.

Pennington made good use of his time. He needed 1:15 or less on two of Marshall's first three touchdown drives as the Herd surged ahead 21-10 midway through the second quarter.

Pennington had a fifth touchdown called back on a personal foul penalty.

Marshall compiled 461 yards of offense and held Bowling Green to 247.

Marshall wide receiver Nate Poole had seven catches for 126 yards, including scores of 11 and 7 yards.

Marshall tailback Doug Chapman played most of the game despite having a cast on his dislocated right thumb. Carrying the ball in his left hand, he finished with 81 yards on 18 carries. Backup Llow Turner also fared well with 97 yards on 10 carries.

Bowling Green quarterback Ricky Schneider went 16-of-36 for 179 yards and two interceptions.
