FARMINGTON, Conn. -- Connecticut basketball coach Jim Calhoun was released from the hospital Sunday, three days after having his cancerous prostate removed.
The 60-year-old Calhoun is expected to resume his coaching duties in three to four weeks, doctors said.
Calhoun was diagnosed with cancer Jan. 30. Doctors have said they caught the disease in its early stages and expect a full recovery.
Calhoun is in his 17th season at Connecticut. His assistant, George Blaney, is coaching the team in his absence. The Huskies (14-5, 5-3 Big East) are 1-1 since Blaney took over.
Connecticut lost 95-74 at Virginia Tech on Wednesday and beat Providence 84-68 in Rhode Island on Saturday.
Calhoun has led the Huskies to national prominence, capped by an NCAA title in 1999. With a career record of 637-290, including 14 seasons at Northeastern, he is among the top 10 active Division I coaches with at least 600 career wins. |
