MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Two Memphis players were suspended Wednesday for their role in a brawl during a game against Arkansas-Pine Bluff. Guards Billy Richmond and Clyde Wade were suspended for one game. Wade will miss Tuesday's game against Arkansas-Little Rock. Richmond, a transfer from Vanderbilt, will miss the first game in which he is eligible to play. Richmond and Wade were ejected from the game Monday night, as were teammates Anthony Rice and Almamy Thiero. Richmond and Thiero were not playing and came off the bench during the fight. The fight began with 5:37 left in the first half during a scramble for a loose ball. Arkansas-Pine Bluff's Antwan Emsweller was underneath a pile as a melee ensued with several punches thrown. Emsweller, Lamarquis Blake and Don Fleming were ejected for Arkansas-Pine Bluff. Emsweller was suspended for a game by the NCAA. The fight caused Memphis to change its policy. Players will automatically be suspended for leaving the bench during a fight, athletics director R.C. Johnson said. Memphis won the game 78-54.
