Doctors say 'Breakfast with Bob' can include Bob

ESPN.com news services

CINCINNATI -- What would "Breakfast with Bob" be at the University of Cincinnati without Bob?

They won't know this year.

Men's basketball coach Bob Huggins, who continues to recover from a heart attack suffered Sept. 28, will attend Saturday's festivities at Shoemaker Center to mark the start of basketball practice, university officials told the Cincinnati Enquirer.

It is not clear whether Huggins actually will coach.

That announcement was made at the Cincinnati-Miami of Ohio football game Saturday. The team will be introduced at 9:30 a.m., followed by drills and a brief scrimmage.

"He has committed to being there, and the doctors have given him the green light," Tom Hathaway, Cincinnati's assistant athletics director for media relations, told the Enquirer.

Huggins, 49, will leave Christ Hospital, where he has been recuperating since Wednesday morning, at some point this week. He was transferred to Christ from The Medical Center in Beaver, Pa., where he underwent a heart catheterization and a stent-placement procedure eight days ago. Huggins was upgraded to fair condition Friday.

A hospital public relations person said Saturday that Huggins' condition remains fair and his results will continue to be evaluated.

Huggins suffered the heart attack at the Pittsburgh airport while on a recruiting trip. Doctors have said he could need 4-to-6 weeks to recuperate.

Huggins was the third-youngest coach to get 500 wins in Division I. His career record is 500-172, including a 332-100 record at Cincinnati.

The Bearcats have been ranked No. 1 several times during his tenure but have made the Final Four just once. Cincinnati went 31-4 last season, losing to UCLA 105-101 in double overtime in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
