Jacobsen declares but won't sign with agent

Stanford junior Casey Jacobsen, the Pac-10's leading scorer this season, has declared for the NBA draft.

Casey Jacobsen won't remain in the draft if his stock isn't high enough.

Jacobsen, however, also said he will not sign with an agent, leaving open the possibility that he'll return to the Cardinal for his senior season.

Jacobsen's teammate, junior Curtis Borchardt, is expected to follow Jacobsen's lead. Both players, according to NBA scouts, are expected to be taken in the first round.

"I was tired about everyone asking me about it," Jacobsen said. "If it's still not clear, or not as good as I would like to be then I'll continue to be eligible. I'm going to be as safe as I can. I'm not naïve, I know there will be 50-plus underclassmen and Europeans and JC and high school players all trying to get the 29 first-round spots. I'm not guaranteed anything."

Jacobsen also said Stanford coach Mike Montgomery was expecting him to declare and was more supportive this season than last after he was considering a jump to the NBA. The deadline for underclassmen to declare for the June 26 draft is May 12. They have until June 19 to remove their names from selection.

Jacobsen, a 6-foot-6 swingman, averaged 22 points per game in the conference. The Cardinal finished 20-10 overall and in a four-way tie for second in the Pac-10 at 12-6.

Stanford, an eighth seed in the NCAA Tournament, was eliminated by Kansas in the second round of the Midwest Regional 86-63. Jacobsen scored 24 points in the loss.

Jacobsen said he plans on working out in Chicago, but not necessarily playing in the games at the Chicago pre-draft camp June 5-8. He said he'll have to take final exams early at Stanford to be able to go to Chicago and still maintain his eligibility.

Borchardt had 17 double-doubles this season for the Cardinal and led the Pac-10 in rebounding (11.4 per game).
