St. John's Red Storm
RECORD: 25-8 COACH: Mike Jarvis | SEASON RESULTS | SEASON STATS
OUTLOOK
  • First round: Defeated Northern Arizona, 61-56
  • Second round: Lost to Gonzaga, 82-76

St. John's has a quick team that plays the game intelligently under coach Mike Jarvis. The Red Storm are one of the better defensive teams in the conference because of their quickness.

    Get the Coach's Edge

Let the experts at Coach's Edge get you ready for the NCAA Tournament with an inside look at the St. John's playbook.
Point guard Erick Barkley ignites them on both ends of the floor. He generates so many more points than just his scoring because of his ability not only to distribute the ball but to create turnovers and get his team into transition.

St. John's biggest weakness is a lack of size in the middle on the front line. Anthony Glover is the starting center at 6-foot-7. They will have a tendency against bigger teams to scramble defensively to double and triple team in order to get help inside. That creates opportunities in other places. In addition, the Red Storm only goes six deep, seven at the most.

Teams must be patient against St. John's. But size gives teams an advantage over the Red Storm. St. John's, a fluid team, is capable of putting together a nice string in the NCAA Tournament. It will depend on the matchups, though, especially if the Red Storm meets a team with dominant big men. They can ultimately get worn down as they get deeper into the tournament. -- Len Elmore, ESPN
