Michigan State playbook: Bedrock backcourt From Coach's Edge How sweet it is. For the second consecutive season, the Spartans march into the Sweet 16 as the top seed in the Midwest. A big part of the Spartans' success comes from the backcourt combination of Mateen Cleaves and Charlie Bell, two of Michigan State's famed "Flintstones." Cleaves is the leader of the Spartans offense. He has the ability to break down the defense off the dribble or pull up and hit the outside jumper. Bell is an explosive scorer who can play the one or the two guard position. Keep an eye on the Bedrock backcourt.
