Games to Watch

Saturday
Rutgers at Princeton: This is a rivalry game that gets little pub nationally. Rutgers is coming off a loss to Auburn and the Tigers need to get a name win after barely escaping with a prayer against Monmouth.

Louisville at Seton Hall (2 p.m. ET, ESPN): Rick Pitino returns to the New York-New Jersey area in a game that could give the Cardinals some legitimacy after losing to Purdue last week.

Florida at Maryland: The Terps get their first big-time opponent in the Comcast Center as the Gators follow a rugged week of at West Virginia, at Florida State and South Florida with the Maryland road trip.

Michigan State at Kentucky: This is the second of four straight Super Saturdays for Kentucky with games against North Carolina (win) and Indiana and Louisville following the Spartans. This will be a better barometer for the Spartans than playing Virginia at home.

Purdue at Indiana (Indianapolis): This game doesn't count in the Big Ten standings and was added so the Hoosiers could get something close to a home game against their rival. The league schedule has them only playing once - in West Lafayette - this season.

Wisconsin at Marquette: Wisconsin's two top 25 teams could produce one of the better games to date. The rivalry is heating up and giving Wisconsin basketball a buzz in December.

LaSalle at Cincinnati: If the Explorers play defense as well as they did against Villanova Saturday then they could give the Bearcats a better game than anyone imagines.

Mississippi State vs. Xavier (New York): This will either be Mario Austin's season debut or the Bulldogs first tough game without him. Xavier could use another quality win to go with Cincinnati and Purdue.

Memphis at Missouri (5:30 p.m. ET, ESPN2): The Tigers haven't had to play a big-time opponent since the opener against Syracuse. They've got their point guard back in Antonio Burks to give them a chance.

Utah State at BYU: This is a rivalry game that few notice outside of the Wasatch Range. Utah State (5-1) would like nothing better than to push the Cougars toward a slide after they lost at Creighton this week.

Texas Tech at Wyoming (Casper): Wyoming has whiffed on each opportunity to get a quality win so far this season. They can't fail here or else an at-large berth will be a reach. Texas Tech has passed every hurdle so far this season.

Oregon at Pepperdine: This could be a dangerous let down game for the Ducks, but the Waves are beat up with Devin Montgomery out (thumb), a hobbling Glen McGowan and the awful news that Will Kimble's heart condition will prevent him from playing basketball.

Hawaii at San Diego State: The Rainbow Warriors make their first road trip of the season against an Aztec team that has new life after Evan Burns got eligible in time for the Arizona game Saturday.

Eastern Washington at Washington: The bitterness over Washington's recruiting violations and the three other schools in the state turning them in has ended but they could fester if the Eagles can pull off an upset in Seattle.

Portland at UCLA: Losing to a former UCLA assistant Brad Holland of San Diego is one thing but losing to Steve Lavin's former assistant - Michael Holton of Portland - probably wouldn't be as tolerable for the Bruins' staff.

Sunday
Gonzaga vs. Georgia (Atlanta): Gonzaga's defense has been suspect but Gonzaga is still winning, beating Washington, Montana and Washington State on the road last week while Georgia got out with a late-possession wins over Colorado and Cal.

Tennessee at Georgia Tech: The nightcap in this Atlanta doubleheader pits Chris Bosh against Ron Slay with perhaps two of the best scorers in the ACC and SEC, respectively, this season.

Texas at Arizona: This could have been No. 1 vs. No. 2 if Texas beat Notre Dame. Regardless, this will be Arizona's toughest game to date and must contain T.J. Ford at the point for the win.
