Games to Watch

Friday
Florida at Florida State: This could be the start of a decent rivalry with Leonard Hamilton back in the state. The Gators should have a stronger Brett Nelson for this game after he hobbled through the Preseason NIT in New York.

Saturday
Kansas at Oregon (in Portland): The Ducks have been looking forward to this one for seven months. Oregon is looking more like Kansas than Kansa, with the Jayhawks struggling to score.

Texas vs. George Washington (at BB&T Classic in D.C.): If only Tom Penders was still coaching, then this matchup of his two latest jobs would have had some real intrigue. But it's the possibility of a Texas-Maryland game on Sunday is what whets the appetite.

Notre Dame vs. Maryland (at BB&T Classic in D.C.): Do you think the Terps will talk about taking it to Notre Dame's Danny Miller? Probably, considering he bolted on Maryland right after its first Final Four two years ago.

Georgia vs. Cal (Wooden Classic in Anaheim): The beaten up Bulldogs don't get an easy game in Anaheim where Cal gives them yet another tough matchup. Georgia has the more experienced backcourt and the game could be won at the point.

Missouri vs. USC (Wooden Classic in Anaheim): Missouri got Jimmy McKinney back from a broken bone in his face and that means the Tigers should be at full strength against an erratic USC.

Kentucky at North Carolina (ESPN, 2 ET): The Wildcats will be down two for this game and the Tar Heels are flying high, which means this has the makings of one of the better early-season matchups. North Carolina nation would like nothing better than to pay back any team whose beaten the Tar Heels the past two seasons.

Xavier at Cincinnati (ESPN, 4 ET): The Queen City Shootout gives the Bearcats, that's right the Bearcats, the chance to upstage the higher-ranked Musketeers.

Drexel vs. Saint Joseph's; Villanova vs. LaSalle; Penn vs. Temple (Palestra in Philadelphia): This is one of the best events on the calendar with all six Philadelphia teams at the Palestra for one day of games. But oddly enough, Penn, the preseason best team in the city, is struggling more so than Drexel, Saint Joseph's or Villanova.

Michigan at Duke: If Tommy Amaker wasn't a former assistant and player at Duke then this could be really, really ugly. But look for Mike Krzyzewski to keep his foot off the pedal against one of the worst teams in major college basketball so far this season.

UNLV at Wisconsin: The Runnin' Rebels are cruising early in the season, but this is a different test. UNLV hasn't had to go on the road to a hostile environment yet.

BYU at Creighton: The Bluejays nabbed Notre Dame and get their second crack at a potential NCAA team -- but strangely for Creighton, this "big" non-conference game is actually at home.

Arizona State at Utah: This is a rematch of the overtime game at Maui and the Utes would like nothing better than to get even after the Sun Devils sent Utah home with two losses.

Oregon State at Portland: The Pilots are one of the early surprise teams and beating one of the big boys in state would go along way toward gaining more respect within the city limits.

Sunday
Miami at Florida State: Perry Clark doesn't mind playing Hamilton, considering he helped him get the job at Hamilton's former school. But this will be a decent test for the 'Canes.

South Carolina at N.C. State: The Wolfpack hasn't had to test their tweeners against a team that is taller and stronger in the post. This is the first chance.
