FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) -- Broderick Hicks was almost perfect
from the free throw line, while Arkansas couldn't even make half of
its attempts.

Hicks scored 12 points, including four free throws in the final 31 seconds, as Wake Forest (No. 22 ESPN/USA Today, No. 23 Associated Press) beat Arkansas 70-64 Monday
night.
The Demon Deacons (8-1) never trailed after Hicks' two free
throws made it 55-54 with 7:36 to play. His two points with 31
seconds left pushed the lead to 68-64 and he added two more foul
shots to close out the scoring.
He was 7-for-8 from the line, while Arkansas (6-3) was 10-for-21.
The Demon Deacons had a 50-33 rebounding edge and 21
second-chance points, including two important baskets by Antwan
Scott in the final 5:26.
"What's sad is looking at the rebounding and free throw
statistics," Arkansas coach Nolan Richardson said. "They killed
us on the offensive boards. As little as we are, we have to be
around 70 percent from the free throw line against a team as good
as Wake Forest."
Scott's uncontested tip made it 59-56 and his second rebound
basket upped the lead to 64-58. Chris Walker's pull-up jumper
sliced the lead to 66-64 with 40 seconds remaining before Hicks
went to the line.
"You have to give credit to our work on the boards," Wake
Forest coach Dave Odom said. "We got a lot of inside shots. For
every free throw they missed, we missed inside shots we should've
made."
Arkansas' last lead was 54-53 after Jason Gilbert made a 3 and
an underhanded layup.
Wake's Darius Songalia, who had 23 against Arkansas last year,
was on the sideline in dress clothes. He injured his knee last week
in a victory over High Point.
"With Songalia out, we asked everybody to give 5 to 8 percent
more this game," Odom said.
Arkansas led 14-2 after the first 4½ minutes. The spurt included
two 3s by Brandon Dean and one by T.J. Cleveland. During the first
four minutes, Arkansas had three steals and Wake Forest had only
one field-goal attempt.
Hicks, Robert O'Kelley and Craig Dawson made consecutive 3s in
an 11-0 run for Wake Forest.
O'Kelley led Wake with 15 points and Scott had 12.
Walker scored 15 to lead the Razorbacks.
