BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) -- Wyoming's players couldn't have picked a worse time to lose their aim. The cold-shooting Cowboys were stampeded Saturday by a rested Indiana squad smarting from a rare home-court loss to a cross-state rival on the day after final exams. A.J. Guyton rebounded from last week's poor showing and scored 29 points, leading Indiana (No. 19 ESPN/USA Today; No. 21 AP) to a 99-80 win, and giving Hoosiers coach Bob Knight his 750th career victory.
Knight is the sixth coach in NCAA Division I history to reach the 750-win milestone. Knight spent six seasons at Army before coming to Indiana. He has 648 wins with the Hoosiers. Wyoming (6-3) shot only 37 percent for the game and was 7-of-20 from the 3-point line. "It wasn't a problem getting shots, we just couldn't knock them down," McClain said. He also criticized the inconsistent officiating, which hit Wyoming up for 10 fouls before the first whistle on the Hoosiers. "Somebody just said to me the game wasn't very pretty. It's hard to play either team when you don't know when they're going to call a foul," McClain said. The Hoosiers (7-1) played for the first time since losing to Indiana State on Dec. 11 after a week off for final exams. "I want to see if we can get from the end of exams to a basketball game and concentrate as we should," Knight said. "Sometimes we have and sometimes we haven't. I thought we were fairly good today in that resolve." Indiana trailed for much of the games first 10 minutes. But the Hoosiers went on a 15-1 run midway through the first half and took a 32-21 lead. Kirk Haston scored seven points during the stretch and finished the game with 22, a season high. Indiana then used a 10-5 run to close out the half for a 43-29 lead and never lost the advantage for the rest of the game. In the second half, Wyoming cut the deficit to nine, but the Hoosiers responded with a 16-6 run. Indiana's lead ballooned to 21 when Guyton scored on a driving layup with 8:19 remaining. In the Indiana State game, Guyton made only 4-of-21 shots. Saturday, he was 6-for-9 in the first half and 12-of-20 overall. "He played better today. This is how I expect him to play, and he's actually better than this," Knight said.
Bradley Mann led Wyoming with 18 points.
