STILLWATER, Oklahoma (Ticker) -- Why bother?

Brian Montonati scored a career-high 28 points and grabbed 15 rebounds as No. 12 Oklahoma State bounced back from its first loss of the season by pounding NAIA neighbor Langston mercilessly from start to finish in a humiliating 125-65 rout.

Although Langston and Oklahoma State are just 24 miles apart, this was the first meeting between the Lions and Cowboys. It took just under three minutes to see why as Oklahoma State raced to a 10-3 lead and never looked back.

"I doesn't hurt you any, but I don't know how much good it does," OSU coach Eddie Sutton said. "We're always going to try to play Division I teams, but we just couldn't find any to play."

Glendon Alexander scored 25 points and Desmond Mason added 22 and 15 boards for the Cowboys (11-1), who opened a 66-29 cushion at the half before pouring it on over the final 20 minutes. Oklahoma State easily eclipsed its previous season-high in points -- 103 vs. North Texas on November 27 -- and scored its most lopsided win after suffering a 63-56 loss against Louisiana State on Thursday.

"In the first half, I got a lot of open 15-footers," Montonati said after eclipsing his previous career high of 22 points against Texas-San Antonio on December 24. "That's something I've been knocking down. I've been working on it after the LSU game."

Lee James scored 26 points for Langston (1-9), which proved to be a less than adequate tuneup for Oklahoma State, which opens its Big 12 Conference schedule Saturday against Texas Tech.

"Man for man their size was a factor," James said. "The home court was definitely a factor. We got tired toward the end and they got off to that run in the first half. That put us away early."

"I thought our kids played hard," Langston coach Gregory Webb added. "They knew that they were coming in as the underdog. They knew they were going to be outmanned. But I think they came out and played well."

Doug Gottlieb had 18 points and 11 assists and Fredrik Jonzen had 15 points off the bench for Oklahoma State, which shot a blistering 62 percent (49-of-79) and held a 46-32 advantage on the boards.

Floyd Hawkins scored 10 points for the overmatched Lions, who shot 38 percent (26-of-68) and committed 19 turnovers while forcing just seven.

Things got ugly in a hurry as Montonati hit a 10-footer and converted a three-point play before Alex Webber's short jumper in the lane made it 7-0 just 97 seconds into the contest.

Montonati sank jumpers on consecutive trips to open a 36-14 bulge with 8:41 remaining in the first half and made it 61-24 on an 18-footer from just inside the top of the key with less than two minutes remaining before intermission. Montonati had 21 points before the break, leading Oklahoma State to a commanding 66-29 lead.
