ALBANY, N.Y. – The Hobey Baker Award, which goes to the top college hockey player in the United States, will be announced Friday afternoon during a ceremony at the Empire State Convention Center. The four teams represented at this year's Frozen Four each have a player among the 10 finalists: Boston College's Brian Gionta, Michigan's Andy Hilbert, Michigan State's Ryan Miller and North Dakota's Jeff Panzer.

The other finalists are: Erik Anderson, Sr., St. Lawrence; Ty Conklin, Sr., New Hampshire; Jeff Hamilton, Sr., Yale; Dany Heatley, Soph., Wisconsin; Kent Huskins, Sr., Clarkson; and Jordan Leopold, Jr., Minnesota.

Boston College's Mike Mottau, now in the New York Rangers organization, won the award last year. Minnesota's Robb Stauber is the only goaltender to receive the Hobey.

A formal banquet to honor this year's Hobey Baker Award winner will be held April 20 in St. Paul, Minn.

Flutie is a follower
San Diego Chargers quarterback and Boston College alum Doug Flutie, wearing a No. 22 BC hockey sweater, was in the stands for the second semifinal and he made his way to the BC dressing room to congratulate the Eagles after their 4-2 win over Michigan ... Boston College is 0-4 in its last four championship game appearances (2000, 1998, 1978, 1965). The Eagles lone title came in 1949 ... North Dakota is 5-0 in championship games dating back to 1980 ... BC has now made the title game for the third time in the last four years. The last school to accomplish that feat was crosstown rival Boston University (1994, 1995, 1997). Lake Superior State was the last school to compete in three consecutive championship games (1992-94).
