WORCESTER, Mass. -- John Ronan scored 2:02 into overtime to lift Maine to a 4-3 win over Harvard on Saturday in the first round of NCAA East Regional.

The Black Bears (24-10-7) will face second-seeded Boston University on Sunday.

Harvard goaltender Dov Grumet-Morris couldn't stop John Ronan's overtime shot on Saturday.

Harvard (15-15-4), which advanced to the NCAA Tournament by defeating Cornell 4-3 in double overtime of the ECAC championship, was making its first tournament appearance since 1994. The Crimson won their last two games in overtime at the ECAC tournament.

Maine won when Ronan finished a 2-on-1 break. Ronan collected a loose puck in his own zone and broke in before firing a slap shot from the top of the left circle that beat goalie Dov Grumet-Morris under the crossbar.

Maine had killed a penalty for too many men on the ice that had carried over from the third period to overtime.

The Black Bears continue their season in honor of coach Shawn Walsh, who died in September from kidney cancer. Maine is seeking its third title, its first since 1999.

Trailing 3-2 in the third period, Harvard tied the score on Tom Cavanagh's power-play goal at 6:15 after Maine was called for a penalty for too many men on the ice.

Grumet-Morris made 33 saves and Morrison stopped 19 Harvard shots.

Tim Pettit's goal gave Harvard a 1-0 lead 7:55 into the first period. Maine tied it on Niko Dimitrakos' power-play goal 2:32 later when he converted Martin Kariya's feed.

Dave McCulloch's slap shot beat Mike Morrison to give Harvard a 2-1 early into the second period, but Maine tied it midway through the second when on Chris Heisten's wrist shot.

Maine made it 3-2 on Michael Schutte's goal 14:22 into the second period.
