Allen Iverson's new rap CD is the target of protests by human rights organizations. They claim the lyrics are offensive and degrading to minorities. What were your thoughts about Iverson's lyrics and did you think the NBA should have taken any sort of action against the 76ers guard? Read the lyrics, then read the comments you wrote in about Iverson. (Editor's note: It is not the intention of ESPN.com to make light of or condone the remarks and opinions made by Iverson. We instead hope to provoke thoughtful debate and perspective on two major sports controversies.)
We asked the users of ESPN.com how they felt about Allen Iverson's rap single '40 Bars'. Here are some of their reactions:
Leave the man alone and let him do what he want to do unless he is offending me which he is not. More power to him not only as a basketball player but now as a hard-core rapper.
Iverson really believes he's larger than life. What a punk.
This is pathetic....Here goes something else for the NBA to Complain about. I bet if this was a White Dude in a Heavy Metal Band Using profanity, this wouldn't even be an issue. What about the rest of the rappers in the industry. If you are going to take actions to one, you need to do the same and guess what," it isn't gonna happen". Thanks for your time to who ever this may concern. Please give me some feed back. Thanks #3 AL keep ballin Balla
GET OFF HIS BACK! The public is treating Iverson as if he's comitted a crime. Record companies have been selling this kind of stuff for years. Rap is music, it gives artists a chance to express themselves. If they should be punished for it, then what the hell does "Freedom of Speech" mean? First, the media loves you for your athletic talent and what you've done in the past. But after time, they try to find negative things about you, to make you look bad, that gives them the chance to brand you as a "Bad Role Model".
The lyrics are disgraceful and i hope the record doesn't sell.
But i don't think the NBA should do anything to Iverson.
I think this poll just goes to show that the media is just out to get stars and celeberties. look at all the music that is out there these days. allen iverson is his own person and should be able to express his feelings and opinions freely, just as the amendments say, and as americans do every day. his is not a role modle, and does not need aproval from anyone, to make an album. i do listen to rap, but there are a lot more garbage out there on the radio, basic TV, and at school, for this to be a controversal topic. you guys need to leave athlets alone and let them live there life.
I don't feel that iverson is the problem his lirics are simular to many hip hop artist and its not the first time someone has said these things. the media has painted a picture of him during his career and now these gay rights advocates are jumping on the band wagon thats wrong eminem has put out two albums with derogatory lirics and he's not getting the same attention i think the nba will be making a big mistake taking action against him. he never claimed to be the poster boy for the nba.
This guy is supposed to be a roll model to our children
I think there is enough going on in this world without major league players making music like this!!
I( think the NBA should suspend him for a season (with out pay). Lets see how much he can make singing songs like that!!!!!!!!!!!
I think he has every right to sing about what he wants to and all though it is controversal I do not think he deserves a punishment because where he used these lyrics were in a different business than the NBA. Allen Iverson the basketball player should not be punished for stuff Allen Iverson the rapper says.
