Spurred on to do the right thing

ESPN.com

Wow! You guys should feel proud. Almost like first grade when you get an A and mommy puts it on the fridge. Great job with the rankings. Spurs No. 1 -- you finally made the right choice.

Spurs at No. 1? Are you joking? Now who can we sneak up on? Thanks for spoiling that for us San Antonio fans. Keep up the good work (although I still don't see anyone upending the Lakers in a seven-game series) -- the right team is at the top, for now.

David Robinson is showing people "he's not a has-been," wrote Stanton Leddy of San Antonio.
It seems like you guys did a good job this week. Putting the Lakers behind the Spurs was a good call. The Spurs have just been outplaying them. Whatever logic you used for this week's rankings (an obvious fluke) worked and you guys should use it more often!

It's about time you showed the Spurs some love. I'm tired of everyone talking about Dallas and the Kings the "only teams that can stop L.A." Let's not forget that the Spurs swept the Lakers in the playoffs in 1999. So I say that L.A. and the Spurs are tied at one sweep a piece. And what about Tim Duncan for MVP? He is only having the best season in his career and is only the best power foward in the game and arguably the best player in the game. Forget Jason Kidd.
Cris Mendoza

I was pleasantly surprised to see that you rewarded the Spurs' dominant performance in March with a direct ticket to the top of the Power Rankings. Tim Duncan has been putting up MVP numbers every night and deserves some recognition. Spurs fans can only hope they keep this focus through June.

Finally, the Power Rankings staff has come to its senses. I can't believe it took a 13-game win streak to convince you so called experts. The Spurs are a defensive team and you must have a good defense to win a championship. Bruce Bowen can cover your Jordan, Iverson, Kobe and V. Carter like a blanket.
Frank Patrick
Dallas, Texas

It's about time the Spurs get some credit! Last week's showings shut up all those people talking crap about how the Lakers were the team to beat. After being brutally decimated by the Spurs and Mavericks and barely squeezing a victory out at Sacramento, the Lakers do not look like your typical defending world champions. As of right now, the Spurs are playing with more intensity than any team in the NBA. If they keep this up, they will definitely be around in June.

Your rankings are consistent. When I watched the Lakers whoop the Kings, I thought, "Come Tuesday afternoon, the rankings better reflect some of the things that happened this week: Lakers stomp Kings (Kings should be demoted, Lakers had better be over the Kings); Lakers were whooped by SA and Dallas (ugh; however this means the Lakers cannot be ranked No. 1). Nevertheless, the only qualm that I have with your website are the titles that are ascribed to the categories: TEAM TO BEAT. SA is NOT the team to beat.

Boy, it's about time you guys put the SPURS atop the rankings. With back-to-back wins against the defending champs and Midwest-leading Mavs, they surely deserve it. And the SPURS are picking it up at the right time. Can't wait till the playoffs start.

L.A. stories
What is it with you guys naming other teams besides the LAKERS "The Team to Beat." Do you really think that the championship goes through the city of San Antonio? My statement will make some sense when the LAKERS beat the Spurs on Sunday. That will prove that the championship goes through L.A.
Jose Torres
Santa Ana, Calif.

I'm glad the Lakers finally showed they are still the team to beat. Yeah, they got thumped by the Spurs and the Mavs in the same week. But the Lakers went to Arco and took care of the Kings. The Lakers have the season series edge against all of these teams, so like Kobe said, "The title comes through L.A." See you guys in June!
Edgar Gonzalez
Los Angeles, Calif.

All right, enough is enough! I've read your so called POWER RANKINGS. We had a lot of fun with this all year, now is the time to get serious. I know you're just doing your job, and I'm sure you laugh at your rankings every week, but instead of calling them Power Rankings, let's call it what it is -- the "Hottest Team of the Week!" As a big world champion Los Angeles Laker fan, I resent any team being labeled the team to beat! The Lakers hold the title, and until they lose it, they are The Team to Beat!

Critical of the Kings
I am a huge Kings fan and I agree with the rankings this week. The Kings need to play stronger defense and beat teams with the offense that works for them and that is passing the ball and getting it to the open man. They also need to value the ball and limit their turnovers -- 20 turnovers a game just isn't going to cut it.

Surfing the Nets
I cannot believe you ranked the Blazers in front of the Nets. The Nets smoked them on Wednsday and followed that up with an absolute thrashing of the Bucks on Friday. What did the Blazers do? Beat the lowly Bulls and a Minnesota team that has won just two of it's last 10 games. Hold on, I'm forgetting something -- oh yeah, they only lost to the Grizzlies AT HOME!

No complaints from Michigan
Bravo. There is absolutely nothing that I can complain about. You are giving the Pistons some respect and I'm glad to see you put the Spurs on top. They deserve it. Good work ESPN.

THANK GOD!! It's about time you give some respect to the Pistons. Maybe now you can start to see how much of a presence they will be come playoff time! DETROIT ALL THE WAY!!
Brian Fox
Sterling Heights, Mich.

Deep-six the Sixers
I really don't understand how the Philadelphia 76ers got ranked over the Seattle Supersonics. Especially, with the injury to Allen Iverson. That means Philadelphia has some major issues as far as maintaining good status for the playoffs. On the other hand, Seattle has been playing extremely well lately. This is an underrated ballclub that can commit some severe damage to the West powers in the playoffs.
