Beyer rejoins former boss in Toronto

LUBBOCK, Texas -- Bob Beyer, who was an assistant at Texas Tech under Bob Knight, has been named to Kevin O'Neill's coaching staff with the Toronto Raptors, the university announced Monday.

It's the second time O'Neill has hired Beyer as an assistant -- the first was in 1997 at Northwestern University. This is Beyer's first job in the NBA.

Beyer has been an assistant at Wisconsin, Siena and Alfred University in New York. He also was the head coach at Siena from 1994-97.

The native of LeRoy, N.Y., has been on Knight's staff for the past two seasons.

"He really did a great job for us, and we wish him the very best in his new endeavor in coaching," Knight said.
