SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Scot Pollard was just starting to feel normal again, which considering his general quirkiness is still a bit outlandish. But the season took another cruel turn for the Sacramento Kings reserve post player Tuesday night against the visiting Utah Jazz. In the midst of his longest stretch of playing time since the season opener, Pollard broke his right hand and heads back to the dreaded injured list, where he has spent most of the season. Pollard, who played 12 minutes and finished with three points and one rebound against the Jazz, is not expected to return for six to eight weeks. A stress fracture in his lower back kept Pollard sidelined or on the bench for 40 of the first 45 games. He worried the season might be lost, but the back eventually healed and he returned to the active roster last week in Atlanta. Following a brief appearance Sunday against Toronto, Pollard was anticipating some longer minutes against Utah. "I worked out Monday and it was the first day my body didn't say, 'What are you doing to me?' I was feeling pretty good after my workout,'' Pollard said prior to the Jazz game. He certainly wasn't all that effective during four first-half minutes when he picked up three quick fouls and departed for the bench. But in the third quarter, Pollard looked a lot more active, helping fuel a Kings rally. He blocked one shot and finished a fast break with a resounding dunk. Somewhere late in the quarter, Pollard broke the fourth metacarpal bone in his right hand. Ironically, teammate Bobby Jackson is out after breaking the same metacarpal bone in his left hand. |
