Warriors acquired Welsch in draft-day trade

Associated Press

OAKLAND, Calif. -- Jiri Welsch, the guard from the Czech Republic acquired by the Warriors in a trade at the NBA draft, signed a contract Friday with Golden State.

Welsch was the 16th overall selection last month in the first round by the Philadelphia 76ers, who traded him to Golden State moments later for two future draft choices.

Terms of his contract weren't disclosed, but Welsch said earlier that his contract in Slovenia wouldn't require a buyout by his new team.

Welsch is playing for the Warriors' summer league team in Long Beach with Mike Dunleavy, the third overall pick who signed last week with Golden State.

The 6-foot-7 Welsch played in Slovenia last season -- his fifth in Europe -- and shot 65 percent from the field.
