TORONTO -- Vince Carter's recovery from arthroscopic knee surgery has been slower than expected.
Carter, who had surgery two weeks ago, might not be available for a first-round playoff series, should the Toronto Raptors reach the postseason, the Toronto Sun reported Monday
"He's had some additional swelling," Toronto general manager Glen Grunwald told the Sun.
Carter has not spoken to the media about his recovery.
"It's nothing serious, but every little thing slows things down," Grunwald told the newspaper. "It's just one of the added complications of the surgery."
Grunwald said it's "very, very doubtful" Carter will be ready for any part of a first-round playoff series, and "maybe less doubtful, but still doubtful" that he could play in a second-round series, which would start the first weekend in May.
"And the first thing is, we have to qualify for the playoffs," Grunwald said.
Doctors have told Carter to stay home and keep off his leg, instead of sitting on the end of the bench.
"He'd love to be here, I know, but he's doing what the doctors recommend he do," Grunwald said.
"Sure, there's an urge to rush him, but we have to be prudent in that regard. We certainly don't want to risk his long-term health. It just hasn't been quite as fast as we'd hoped." |
