CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Charlotte Hornets on
Tuesday signed Indiana forward Kirk Haston, their only pick in
the NBA draft.
Haston, selected 16th overall in last month's draft out of
Indiana, signed a $3.2 million, three-year contract in line with
the NBA's rookie scale agreement.
"Everything we've seen thus far about Kirk Haston has been
impressive, on and off the court," said Hornets executive vice
president of basketball operations Bob Bass. "We look forward to
seeing him at training camp."
The 6-foot-10, 240-pound Haston played his first two college seasons
for Bob Knight. He had an inconsistent career at Indiana but led
the Hoosiers as a junior by averaging 19.0 points and 8.7
rebounds.
The highlight of Haston's and Indiana's season came on Jan. 7, when he drained a 3-pointer at the buzzer to defeat defending
national champion and then-No. 1 Michigan State.
Haston is the second first-round pick to come to terms. DeSagana Diop, one of four high school players
to be selected in the first eight picks of last week's NBA draft, agree on a deal with the Cleveland Cavaliers.
