Eight to vie for Hornacek's vacant crown

NEW YORK -- Allan Houston of the New York Knicks and Ray Allen of the Milwaukee Bucks were picked Thursday for the 3-point shooting contest during the NBA's All-Star weekend.

Pat Garrity of Orlando, Rashard Lewis of Seattle, Steve Nash and Dirk Nowitzki of Dallas, Bryon Russell of Utah and Predrag Stojakovic of Sacramento also were picked for the event, to be held at Washington on Feb. 10, a day before the All-Star Game.

Jeff Hornacek of Utah won the event last year. He has retired.

John Stockton of the Jazz leads the NBA in 3-point shooting this season, making 50.8 percent of his attempts.
