LOS ANGELES -- The Los Angeles Clippers might not have a
coach, but their trio of first-round draft picks are in the fold.
Darius Miles, Keyon Dooling and Quentin Richardson, all among
the top 18 picks in the June 28 NBA draft, signed contracts
Tuesday.
Miles, a 6-foot-9, 217-pounder, entered the draft straight out
of high school. The 18-year-old forward averaged 22.1 points, 12.4
rebounds, 7.2 blocks, 3.4 assists and 2.4 steals as a senior at
East St. Louis High, Ill.
Dooling, the 10th overall selection, averaged 15.3 points and
3.7 assists at Missouri last season. The 6-3 point guard was
drafted by Orlando and then traded to the Clippers along with Corey
Maggette, Derek Strong and cash for a first-round pick next year.
Richardson, a 6-6 guard, was the 18th overall pick in the draft.
He averaged 17.9 points and 10.2 rebounds in two seasons at DePaul.
The Clippers have been without a permanent coach since Chris
Ford was fired over six months ago. Jim Todd, who filled in as
interim coach for the rest of the season, was informed in May he
would not be a candidate for the position.
The Clippers offered the job to University of Cincinnati coach
Bob Huggins last week, but Huggins turned down a reported four-year
contract worth $8 million to remain with the Bearcats.
