PHOENIX -- Portland Trail Blazers center Arvydas Sabonis suffered a severely sprained right foot Wednesday night when he fell awkwardly after being bumbed by Detroit's Christian Laettner.

The injury occurred with four minutes left in the third quarter, and the Blazers ahead 75-64.

Sabonis got a long lob pass from Rasheed Wallace near the basket, and Laettner nudged him with his right arm. Sabonis' left foot slipped, and the 7-foot-3 player fell to the floor, his right foot pinned underneath.

Sabonis howled in pain, and he was helped from the floor by teammates, unable to put any weight on his right leg.

Laettner was called for a personal foul on the play.

Sabonis had 15 points on 5-of-7 shooting and seven rebounds when he was hurt.
