EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- New Jersey Nets center Jayson Williams, recovering from a broken right leg and cartilage damage in his knee, underwent strength tests Wednesday.

Dr. Russell Warren said he was pleased with Williams' progress, and the team said he will be reevaluated in six to eight weeks to determine if he can return to the active roster.

"He has worked extremely hard to return to the Nets from his leg injuries, and we are encouraged by Dr. Warren's latest evaluations," general manager John Nash said.

Williams, injured in a collision with teammate Stephon Marbury in an April 1 game, had arthroscopic surgery in September to remove loose particles in his knee.
