NEW YORK -- New York Knicks guard Latrell Sprewell was fined $10,000 by the NBA on Wednesday for shouting profanity at Golden State Warriors fans who taunted him.

The game in Oakland, Calif., on Saturday night marked the first time Sprewell was facing his former team. It also was the first time he faced Warriors coach P.J. Carlesimo, whom Sprewell choked two years ago.

Sprewell shouted obscenities and vulgar remarks at some fans during the game, won by the Knicks 86-79.

Shortly before the opening tip, Carlesimo approached midcourt in hopes of shaking hands with Sprewell. But Sprewell remained under the Knicks' basket and turned away from his former coach.
