When he was an NBA player a long, long time ago, Fred "Mad Dog" Carter probably ended up on a lot of Top 5 lists, whether it was for his shooting, his aggressiveness or just his love of the game. Carter's still going strong on NBA 2Night and now on ESPN.com. Every Wednesday this season Carter will share with us Mad Dog's Top 5, in which he'll reveal a list in some not-so-obvious categories.

This week, Mad Dog tackles his Top 5 Surprise Rebounders. While some of the same guys (like Tim Duncan, Dikembe Mutombo) have shown up after one week among the rebounding leaders, there are also some new faces doing better than expected. Here are their stories.

MAD DOG'S TOP 5 SURPRISE REBOUNDERS
Jamie Feick
Feick
Jamie Feick
Nets
13.6 rebounds a game, No. 3 in NBA
"He's really a surprise. Even though he finished last year well, he's a journeyman who just found his niche. At the end of last year he was among the league leaders in rebounds per minute. When Jayson Williams comes back he'll lose time but he's an excellent surprise."
Jerome Williams
Williams
Jerome Williams
Pistons
11.0 rebounds, No. 8-tie in NBA
"Extremely athletic and versatile, he can also handle the ball and run on offense. The fact he's getting nine rebounds a game at that size, it shows his toughness and effort. He can really go with the big rebounders."
Shareef Abdur-Rahim
Abdur-Rahim
Shareef Abdur-Rahim
Grizzlies
10.8 rebounds, 10th in NBA
"You generally don't see a small forward rebound like this, get 10 rebounds a night. Here's an offensive player doing that and it tells me how focused he is to do a lot of things. He's an offensive machine and now his game is even more complete."
Marcus Camby
Camby
Marcus Camby
Knicks
10.2 rebounds, 12th in NBA
"Here's a guy who was not a big rebounder, was considered soft and lacking toughness. Now he's garnering more than 10 rebounds a game. He made the adjustment. He recognized his responsibilities. The shotblocking was always there, now he gets the boards."
George Lynch
Lynch
George Lynch
76ers
9.4 rebounds, 16th in NBA
"He plays the 3 usually, the 4 a little now with Geiger and Ratliff out of the lineup. He's an outstanding rebounder, but on this team these days he's not competing with other big guys for rebounds. He's really picking things up, getting that edge for not shooting much and doing the complimentary things."
