Auburn sophomore point guard Jamison Brewer will stay in the draft
instead of returning to school, Brewer told ESPN.com on Monday night.
Brewer held his own at the Chicago pre-draft camp and was one of the
emerging sleepers throughout the four-day camp. The 6-foot-4 inch Brewer is projected
as a second-round pick with the potential to sneak into the first round. He
said he's leaving Chicago for a workout in Boston on Wednesday.
"I'm not going back to Auburn and I feel comfortable with where I'm
at," Brewer said. "I'd be OK if I go in the second round, but I would try
to get some sort of guarantee."
Brewer averaged 8.4 points, 7.2 rebounds and 5.2 assists for the
Tigers. He said he came to Chicago with the intent of simply testing the
waters but felt he was one of the best underclassmen point guards in the
camp. That was good enough for him to decide to stay in the draft. He said
he hasn't signed with an agent but he would soon.
Underclassmen have until June 20 to withdraw from the NBA draft,
assuming they don't sign with an agent.
"Nobody knew me when I came here," said Brewer, who was omitted
from the 220-page NBA draft media guide. "My size and strength will be a
plus. I don't think I'm a sleeper anymore. If I keep working, I'll improve
my stock."
