LOS ANGELES (AP) – Tim Duncan scored the first 11 points in the
fourth quarter and finished with 32 points and 18 rebounds as the
San Antonio Spurs beat the Los Angeles Clippers 93-83 Saturday
night.
David Robinson scored 20 points and former Clipper Derek
Anderson added 13 points for San Antonio.
The Spurs won their third straight and extended their winning
streak over the Clippers to 14 games. San Antonio maintained its
three-game lead over Utah in the Midwest Division with six games
remaining.
The Spurs have the NBA's best record at 54-22.
Reserve Derek Strong led the Clippers with 17 points. Jeff
McInnis added 15.
Cory Maggette had 15 points and a career-high 15 rebounds.
Duncan used two dunks, two jumpers, a basket off a rebound and a
free throw to account for all of the Spurs' scoring in the opening
5:14 of the fourth quarter.
The Clippers closed within eight points, 81-73, with 6:57
remaining but could get no closer.
Duncan had 10 points, seven rebounds and four assists in the
first quarter to lead the Spurs.
Maggette had 12 of his rebounds in the first two quarters as the
Clippers pulled within 50-37 by halftime.
Game notes
Los Angeles forward Lamar Odom did not play due to a
bruised tailbone, an injury sustained April 6th against the
Milwaukee Bucks. ... Stefan Kokoskov, the 64-year old father of
Clippers assistant coach Igor Kokoskov, passed away Thursday night
after a long illness. Coach Kokoskov returned to Belgrade,
Yugoslavia, to be with his family and will be away from the team
indefinitely. ... Los Angeles' Cherokee Parks injured his left eye
in the first quarter and did not return. ... The Clippers are 11-3
at home since Feb. 1. That record ties Minnesota for the best home
mark during that span. ... The Clippers established a franchise
attendance record. Saturday's sellout crowd of 18,964 raised this
season's total attendance to 561,137. The sellout was the Clippers'
ninth of the season, tying a franchise record established in
1991-92. ... San Antonio forward Tim Duncan leads the NBA with 62
double-doubles. ... The Spurs won for the ninth time in 11 road
games. ... David Robinson moved past Eddie Johnson and into 32nd
place on the NBA's career scoring list with 19,213 points.
