Sacramento jumps into first in Pacific Division

RECAP | BOX SCORE | GAME FLOW

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) -- It's difficult to tell that Chris Webber is nursing a sore ankle.

Chris Webber
Sacramento's Chris Webber has scored 41 points in back-to-back games, and added 12 rebounds Friday against Denver.

Webber scored 41 points for the second consecutive game and led the Sacramento Kings to a 110-104 victory over the Denver Nuggets on Friday night.

Webber shot 16-for-27, converted nine of 10 free throws and had 12 rebounds as the Kings won their third in a row and moved into first place in the Pacific Division.

"You can tell Chris still doesn't have the other leg yet," Sacramento reserve guard Bobby Jackson said. "But he comes out and plays hard. He wants to win. It will be scary when he gets healthy."

Webber scored 23 points in the second half as Kings built a double-digit lead in the third quarter and held off the short-handed Nuggets.

"The ankle is still a little sore, but it keeps getting better every game," said Webber, who scored 34 points in the second half Wednesday as the Kings rallied from a 28-point deficit over Phoenix. "I'm doing a little better every game. I still have a lot of confidence in myself and the team."

Predrag Stojakovic scored 24 points for the Kings, who won for the sixth time in seven games.

Jackson scored 13 and Vlade Divac added 10 for the Kings. Doug Christie had nine points, 10 rebounds and four steals for Sacramento, which has beaten Denver nine consecutive times at Arco Arena.

The slumping Nuggets, who have lost five in a row and 16 of 20, played without injured starters Antonio McDyess and Nick Van Exel. They have lost nine consecutive road games.

"They keep coming at you, regardless if whether they're down or up," Denver's Robert Pack said. "They're explosive, they like to get out and run and it plays to their advantage. You can't rest on those guys, they're a talented group of guys."

Voshon Lenard led Denver with 24 points. Pack had 22 points, 13 assists and eight rebounds. James Posey finished with 18 point and Raef LaFrentz added 17 points and 14 rebounds.

The Nuggets had no answer for Webber in the third quarter. Webber scored 16 points in the period as the Kings outscored Denver 30-22 and took an 85-73 lead into the fourth.

"The game probably wasn't as close as the final score, but we never quit," Denver coach Dan Issel said.

The Nuggets made four 3-pointers in the fourth quarter and finished with nine.

"We fell down a little bit in the end, giving them those looks at 3s that they made," Kings coach Rick Adelman said. "Denver competed well and I'm just glad to get the win."

Webber shot 9-for-14 and scored 18 points in the first half as the Kings built a 55-51 lead by the break.
