Kings score first 14 points of overtime

RECAP | BOX SCORE | GAME FLOW

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) -- The Sacramento Kings nearly paid the price for taking the youthful Los Angeles Clippers for granted.

Peja Stojakovic had 25 points and Vlade Divac added 24 points and 12 rebounds as the Kings scored the first 14 points in overtime to beat Los Angeles 106-93 Tuesday night. The Kings took immediate control in overtime. Divac scored on a short hook, Scot Pollard muscled inside for a three-point play and Stojakovic scored on a layup following Doug Christie's steal, putting Sacramento ahead 96-89 at the 3:37 mark.

The Kings, who have won four of five games, made all six field-goal attempts and went 3-for-3 from the free-throw line in overtime. Bobby Jackson and Divac both scored six points in the extra period.

"We struggled all night," said Jackson, who made all six shots and scored 16 points. "We took them for granted and didn't play Kings basketball. We didn't play good defense or push the ball. We let them hang around too long."

Although they have dropped the last two games, the Clippers won the previous four. A young lineup has done well of late. Los Angeles finished February with a 7-7 record, their best month since February 1997.

"They have some really good young players," Kings coach Rick Adelman said. "It's just a matter of time with them. They are going to be tough. They play hard every night."

That was certainly the case against the Kings, who had All-Star forward Chris Webber miss his eighth straight game. The Kings, who outscored the Los Angeles 17-4 in the extra period, are 5-3 in Webber's absence.

Jeff McInnis scored a career-high 33 points for the Clippers, who have lost five straight games to the Kings. Lamar Odom had 10 of his 16 points in the fourth quarter and Eric Piatkowski had 15 points.

"I think we just let the crowd get us out of what we wanted to do," McInnis said. "We go to overtime and Sacramento was hyped to be in overtime, they had more energy."

Piatkowski made two free throws, putting Los Angeles in front 88-86 with 56 seconds left in regulation. Divac helped pull the Kings even, making two free throws, tying the game at 89 with 15.7 remaining. Sean Rooks missed a 17-footer with one second left, sending the game into overtime.

"I thought I got a good look, maybe I rushed it a little," Rooks said.

Stojakovic brought the Kings back from a five-point deficit, driving in for a three-point play and hitting a short flip along the baseline, tying the game 86-86 with 1:24 left.

Odom scored seven straight points and McInnis made a 3-pointer and added a jumper as the Clippers went ahead 84-79 with 3:40 remaining.

"It seemed like it took 48 minutes for us to get going," Adelman said. "We were fortunate to get pull this one out in overtime."

Pollard had 17 points and 11 rebounds and Christie added 10 points.
